Financial Reporting Accountant

We are actively seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant to join our Accounting team. As a Financial Reporting Accountant, you will be a critical driver of a continuous improvement culture. You will be responsible for supporting internal and external reporting while ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and compliance of our financial reporting processes. This position is expected to support both team and Fleetio-wide initiatives proactively and enthusiastically, including process improvement and growth in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with change, detail oriented, highly organized, and a proactive problem solver. This individual will report to the Controller and work closely with the CFO, Financial Planning & Analysis and Accountants.

What you'll be doing

You will be responsible for providing support to Fleetio’s Controller, preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, preparing various journal entries and account reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the month, quarter and year-end close process to prepare high-quality, accurate financials in accordance with accounting standards.
• Analyze and reconcile key general ledger accounts, including cash, and prepare various journal entries throughout the month.
• Prepare workpapers and calculations for deferred commissions, accrued vacation, quarterly referral fees and other items as needed.
• Perform flux analysis and obtain detailed understanding of transactions/activities recorded to accounts, ensuring proper accounting is being applied and providing variance explanations with business drivers.
• Manage the entire fixed asset lifecycle, including acquisition, recording, tracking, and disposal in NetSuite.
• Assist with our Maintenance Shop Integration (MSI) accounting and reconciliations.
• Manage business license and personal property tax filings.
• Work closely with external financial auditors and tax accountants during various engagements throughout the year.
• Collaborate with accounting, finance, legal, and other teams to obtain support for financial reporting matters.
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in accounting standards and regulations, assist in assessment of their impact on the company, including providing guidance on adoption and implementation.
• Identify areas for improvement, including process or control weaknesses, communicate to management, and implement changes to enhance the control environment and mitigate risk.
