The City of Fayetteville, located in Cumberland County, NC is seeking to fill a vacancy for a Mechanical Inspector in the Development Services Department. Qualified individuals should currently possess a North Carolina Mechanical Standard Inspection Level I - III certification.

Compensation details based on level of certification:
Under the City of Fayetteville's Career Track plan for Mechanical Inspectors, a Level II Mechanical Inspector is entitled to additional compensation of $7,500. A Level III Mechanical Inspector would be entitled to additional compensation of $15,000. The successful candidate may obtain additional supplemental compensation of $3,750 for a Level II certification in a secondary trade (Electrical, Building or Plumbing). Compensation is awarded AFTER the candidate has successfully obtained the certification(s).
Examples of duties
- Perform mechanical inspections of all types of buildings and structures during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with all applicable NC Mechanical Codes.
- Interpret mechanical codes for the public, city staff, contractors, architects and building owners.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public, contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners regarding Mechanical Codes and related issues; investigate complaints and recommend options based on the NC Mechanical Code minimum standards as necessary to resolve complaints.
- Review construction plans and specifications to ensure compliance with NC Mechanical Codes.
- Issue stop works, corrections and occupancy documents that address various violations; maintain background records for possible legal actions.
- Confer with architects, engineers, contractors, builders and the public in the field, via phone texting, and email; explain and interpret requirements and minimum standards.
- Confer with other inspectors and City staff to ensure consistent code and ordinance enforcement.
- Enter inspection results in the permitting system as soon as possible from the time the inspection has been completed so homeowners, contractors, engineers, and others are aware of any violation of the NC Mechanical Code and ordinances or the approval of the inspection.
- Maintain inspection results regarding inspections activities and findings for each project within the permitting system.
- Prepare inspections results performed and enter them into the permitting system.
Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:Experience:
A probationary Level I mechanical inspection certificate with two years of experience inspecting mechanical systems, or be a Licensed Mechanical Contractor, or two years of construction experience while working under a Licensed Mechanical Contractor.
