Job Description Summary

The Registered Inpatient Electroencephalography (EEG) Technologist III of the Clinial Neuorphysiology Services Department reports to the Inpatient EEG Coordinator. Under general supervision, the Registered Inpatient EEG Technologist III records, by means of electronic equipment, neurophysiologic potentials for the diagnosis and prognosis of diseases and conditions involving the nervous system. This position demonstrates competence and works under indirect supervision (EEG Coordinator, EEG Unit Leader, EEG Specialist or physician must be immediately available for assistance during all procedures).

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Hospital’s Clinical Neurophysiology Department (CNPS) offers a wide selection of neurological diagnostic testing including EEG, EMG, IONM, and Neurovascular imaging. MUSC is a Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center as well as a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center with world class technology (and attending physicians). For our long-term EEG patients, we have a brand new dedicated Inpatient EEG Monitoring Room which is staffed 24/7, optimizing diagnostic quality and enabling quick-response patient care. As MUSC’s neuroscience program continues to expand, we are looking for strong dedicated people to join our team with a passion to deliver the best possible healthcare for our patients. Our Clinical Neurophysiology Lab proudly comprises five accredited labs including an IOM team, Outpatient EEG team, Inpatient EEG team, EMG team and Neurovascular team. In fact, we are one of the two labs in the nation that hold the most neurophysiology lab accreditations. Our technologists are among the most qualified and talented available across the entire country. The Clinical Neurophysiology Department has built many opportunities for advancement within the department, as well as endless opportunities for continuing education. This is on top of the many opportunities for growth within the expansive MUSC Health system. We are not just changing lives; we are changing what’s possible in health care.

Job Description

Graduation from a CAAHEP accredited program of Electroneurodiagnostic (END) technology or the equivalent and registered as an EEG Technician by ABRET required and must be maintained. One year EEG Technician work experience required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Assist in diagnosing patient's medical conditions of the brain, such as diseases, epilepsy and tumors. They are responsible for operating an EEG machine that records brain waves. They obtain the patient's head measurements, prepare the patient's head for the attachment of electrodes, record the patient's brain activity, observe the findings and generate written reports.
