Position Summary

The Foreign National Information System Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining foreign national employee records in the Foreign National Information System (FNIS), communicating with foreign nationals regarding FNIS data entry, and working with WashU departments on matters related to foreign national hiring and onboarding.

Additional responsibilities include assistance with ITIN applications, responding to tax filing questions, and informational webinars for international students and scholars as well as WashU staff.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Foreign National Information System (FNIS) procedures within the Office for International Student and Scholars (OISS).
  • Create and process foreign national records in FNIS and Workday as well as update and maintain records as necessary.
  • Follow-up with students and scholars on completion of FNIS records and corrections to records.
  • Serve as a university resource for FNIS matters. Respond to general email and phone inquiries related to foreign national taxation from students, scholars, and employees. Support university departments in assisting foreign nationals. Collaborate with the university’s Tax Department and Payroll Services to ensure consistent reporting.
  • Answer FNIS questions from students, scholars, HR, Payroll Services, and colleagues.
  • Prepare and lead programs (workshops, appointments) related to FNIS.
  • Assess programming and communication and make changes to improve services.
  • Work with the Office for International Student Engagement (OISE) to support students with tax season questions.
  • May perform other duties as needed.

More About This Job

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Designated School Official within six months of start date. Per U.S. federal regulations, must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident and provide proof of status for DSO status. 
  • Direct experience in a human resources, payroll, or international tax/immigration environment or equivalent relevant experience and a willingness to undertake appropriate training to obtain specialized skills.
  • Experience with foreign national payroll processing and tax treaty analysis.
  • Tax Navigator experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree - Accounting, M.B.A. - Master of Business Administration


Certifications:

Certified Payroll Professional - American Payroll Association, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
