Job Description

Developer Experience Leader is an individual contributor role for a Staff Level Engineer and is responsible for enhancing the productivity, satisfaction, and efficiency of our internal engineering teams by improving the tools, processes, and platforms they use daily. This role focuses on creating a seamless, intuitive, and delightful internal developer experience through collaboration with engineering, DevOps, and product teams. You’ll advocate for developers’ needs, streamline workflows, and foster a culture of technical excellence within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:  

Developer Advocacy: Serve as the voice of internal developers, gathering feedback on pain points and advocating for improvements in tools, workflows, and infrastructure.  

Tooling & Platform Optimization: Collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams to design, implement, and maintain internal tools, libraries, APIs, and CI/CD pipelines that enhance developer productivity.  

Documentation & Training: Oversee the creation and upkeep of internal documentation, wikis, and training materials to ensure developers have clear, accessible resources for onboarding and ongoing work.  

Workflow Streamlining: Identify and eliminate friction in development processes, such as build times, testing environments, or deployment pipelines, to improve time-to-delivery.  

Onboarding Excellence: Design and maintain efficient onboarding programs for new developers, including standardized environments, templates, and quick-start guides.  

Feedback Mechanisms: Establish regular feedback loops (e.g., surveys, 1:1s, or team retrospectives) to understand developer needs and drive continuous improvements.  

Internal Tool Development: Lead initiatives to build or adopt internal tools (e.g., debugging utilities, monitoring dashboards, or automation scripts) that simplify and accelerate development tasks.  

Collaboration & Alignment: Partner with engineering managers, product teams, and IT to align developer experience initiatives with company goals and technical strategy.  

Knowledge Sharing: Foster a culture of knowledge sharing by organizing internal tech talks, hackathons, or workshops to promote best practices and innovation.  

Metrics & Impact: Define and track KPIs related to internal developer productivity, satisfaction, and tool adoption, reporting outcomes to leadership.

Qualifications

Experience: 10+ years in a developer-facing or engineering role, such as software engineer, DevOps engineer, developer advocate, or technical program manager, with a focus on internal tools or workflows.  

Technical Skills:  

Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Go, Java).  

Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).  

Experience with internal developer tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).

Experience building or maintaining internal developer platforms or tools.  

Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana or Datadog) and developer productivity metrics

Communication Skills: Excellent ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.  

Empathy & Developer Focus: Deep understanding of developers’ workflows and challenges, with a passion for improving their day-to-day experience.  

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify bottlenecks and implement effective solutions in complex technical environments.  

Project Management: Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.  

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sc
