40Position Summary
Working under the close supervision of the Principal Investigator, executes maintenance of animal (mouse) colony, genotyping, culture of cell lines, primary culture of mouse immune cells, and preparation of human clinical samples (blood, urine and tissue biopsy), following protocols involving a variety of molecular and cellular biology experiments related to the characterization of immune-related mechanisms of autoimmune kidney disease and kidney transplant rejection. Assists with ordering lab reagents/supplies, and maintaining IACUC and IRB protocols. Expected to have a high level of initiative and seek to identify scientific questions and conduct experiments independently with guidance from PI along with the ability to interact well with faculty, fellows, and students.Our lab studies involve basic immunology and molecular biology experiments, including flow cytometry analysis, ELISA, RNA sequencing, PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescent microscope, confocal microscope analysis. Mouse surgical expertise such as kidney ischemia reperfusion injury model, nephrectomy, and small animal procedures are preferred. In collaboration with other members of the research team, gives input to the development of design experiments. Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data using statistical techniques.
Designs research protocols. Assists in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis and documentation of experiment results.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data.
Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses.
Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers.
Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
Conducts literature searches related to research project.
Animal colony maintenance and procedures
- Conducts independent research using autoimmune kidney disease and transplant mouse models.
- Conducts translational research using human samples (blood, urine, single-cell and tissue biopsy samples).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
