Job Purpose
Canoo is seeking a talented and driven new graduate to join our team as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer. The Manufacturing Systems Engineer will be responsible to define, architect, design, integrate and validate equipment, tools, techniques, and processes needed to manufacture Canoo’s vehicles. This role is the bridge between the product engineering, design teams, Controls, software, operations engineering and external suppliers. The role will design innovative solutions to carry out manufacturing operations while maintaining quality and speed of production.
Responsibilities (80s of the Position)
- Develop expertise on objectives, physical functionalities, and limitations of vehicle systems. Work in concert with product engineering to enable Design for Manufacturability.
- Write and manage physical, chemical, and electronic requirements for the manufacturing systems needed to achieve vehicle objectives & operational requirements of safety, ergonomics, production volumes and quality.
- Conduct market research on available sensors, actuators, and standalone techniques relevant to the manufacturing system. Make component and design selections accordingly.
- Conduct make vs buy evaluations.
- Coordinate with suppliers, design teams, Controls developers and onsite installers / calibrators to develop and deploy the needed manufacturing system.
- Manage deliverables to meet program milestones and support vehicle builds.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or robotics disciplines.
- 1 or more years of systems engineering or professional robotics experience.
- Display aptitude with a variety of engineering tools such as CAD software (NX, Catia, SolidWorks etc.), Data Acquisition and instrumentation systems (e.g. NI Labview, Arduino, Symatic, Alen Bradley programming, etc.) and programming languages (MATLAB, Python, C++, etc)
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree in engineering plus 2-3 years of experience in related fields
- Hands-on work on Robotics projects, Formula SAE etc.
- Experience in automotive manufacturing including General Assembly, Body-In-White, etc.
Travel Requirements
- Potential of 0 to 20% travel as necessary.
