About the role

Job summary
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This position will conduct analysis to verify proposed products will meet customer requirements in mission scenarios.

We have an immediate opening for a Sr. Communications Systems Engineer to support the Kuiper Government Solutions (KGS) team focusing on DoD and National Security customers. This position will be based in in the Northern Virginia area and will be part of the KGS team defining and executing system-level modeling and simulation architecture and analysis. Analysis elements will include Project Kuiper’s broadband wireless network with government customer end points and commercial and government terrestrial gateways via Low Earth Orbit satellites. This is a unique opportunity to innovate and define groundbreaking wireless technology with few legacy constraints. The team develops and designs the Kuiper system and analyzes its overall system level performance such as for overall throughput, latency, system availability, packet loss etc., as well as compatibility for both connectivity and interference mitigation with other space and terrestrial systems. This team also develops and analyzes resource allocation techniques for links to ensure optimal system performance from capacity, coverage, power consumption and availability point of view.

Key job responsibilities
• Work within a project team and take responsibility for high bandwidth wireless system architecture modeling, simulation and analysis
• Create simulation models representative of the system in Matlab / C++ / Python.
• Design interconnection strategies between nodes. Analyze link availability and link outages
• Use RF and optical link budgets with constellation dynamics to model time-varying system latencies and capacity.
• Conduct trade-off analysis to benefit customer experience and optimization of resources (costs, power, spectrum), including optimization of constellation design and link selection.
• Work closely with implementation teams to simulate expected system level performance and provide quick feedback on potential improvements
• Analyze and minimize potential interference with other communication systems
• Work with communication terminal teams to appropriately model RF and optical parameters to understand system performance, service level agreement definition and customer experience
• Provide visualizations, document results, and communicate them across multi-disciplinary project teams and customers

Security Clearance: Candidates must have recent or active US Government security clearance of TS/SCI (with polygraph preferred) and be able to maintain a TS/SCI security clearance , so you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.
