Wausau Tile is looking for a hardworking, energetic, and safety-conscious individual to fill the Grinding & Polishing Lead position. The ideal candidate should be able to work both independently and in team environments, with little or no supervision. The candidate must also be mechanically inclined, able to operate various equipment and hand tools, and have the ability to read and understand production paperwork, including schedules and blueprints. 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION 

The Grinding & Polishing Lead is responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating equipment and hand tools to produce high-quality concrete and epoxy precast terrazzo products. These products are primarily stair treads and risers. This position involves overseeing the grinding and polishing process and ensuring products meet the required specifications and quality standards. The role may require assistance in other areas of the department as needed. 

SPECIFIC TASKS 



Grinding 





Utilize a hand-held electric powered grinder with abrasive grinding pads to rough-grind products through various stages. 





Complete the grinding process to prepare the product for further tasks such as Concrete Grouting or Epoxy Cab-o-Siling. 





Ensure the product is appropriately staged for the next processing stage. 





Polishing 





Using a pneumatic powered polisher, polish the product with abrasive polishing pads, following a technique of continuous passes with finer grit pads. 





Place previously ground and grouted/cab-o-siled products on a workstation using a crane. 





Perform polishing with attention to achieving smooth, high-quality finishes on the product. 





Inspection 





After completing the polishing process, inspect the product for quality and completeness. 





Utilize measuring equipment to verify that the product meets the required specifications and standards. 





Wipe down and blow off products after polishing to ensure cleanliness. 





Staging 





Once the polishing process is complete, stage the products by placing them on pallets or movable carts. 





Transport finished products to a designated staging area for further processing in the Finishing department. 



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 



Prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, stretching, lifting, walking, twisting, squatting, and kneeling. 





Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds in all directions. 





Repeating motions involving the wrists, hands, fingers, knees, back, shoulders, and neck. 





Comfortable working in conditions that may require ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and similar structures.
