Band 7 Senior Support Pharmacist - Critical Care and Trauma

Job summary

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our critical care pharmacy team. This role involves the responsibility for delivering high-quality clinical and operational services to critical care and trauma patients.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) boasts the largest single Critical Care Unit in Europe, with 100 bed spaces, and is one of the four major trauma centres in the West Midlands. This specialist role offers a unique opportunity to further develop your clinical pharmacy skills, as well as gain additional expertise in governance, medicines expenditure, and guideline development, all in preparation for progression to specialist pharmacist roles.

While previous experience within critical care is desirable, it is not essential. You will receive support and training throughout your role. Additionally, you may be required to cover trauma and orthopaedic wards, providing a broad scope of experience.

This position will enable you to work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including consultants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care. You will also have the chance to participate in various initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes and enhancing the overall efficiency of our pharmacy services.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

To partake in specialised clinical pharmacy duties on the critical care units, trauma wards at QEHB, ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertaken.

To develop effective working relationships, to challenge and to prioritise your own work as well of the work of the team.

To assist in providing a specialist pharmaceutical service to tertiary services including the provision of education and training, procedures, protocols and medicines usage information.

To ensure that through the provision of pharmacy services and advice to patients, carers and other healthcare professionals, there is safe and effective use of medicines.

To provide leadership and directorate/service support roles to the trauma services, and within critical care.

To support junior staff in the department

To take full part in clinical/dispensary rota, weekend rota and bank holiday duties

Cross site critical care cover may be required with prior notice.

To take part in the support of pharmacy out-of-hours service (first on-call duties)

Qualifications

Essential

*Master's degree in pharmacy (MPharm)

*Current membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

*18-24 months post-registration experience within hospital pharmacy.

*Has completed or is near completion (within the next 6 months) a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification or equivalent.

*Evidence of continued Professional Development in Pharmacy related matters

Desirable

*Completed or be willing to work towards a non-medical prescribing qualification
