The Statler Hotel, located on Cornell University's campus, is renowned as "the premier hotel that teaches." It serves as the practical hotel operations laboratory for the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, providing students with hands-on experience in hospitality management. The hotel combines modern elegance with the vibrant energy of campus life, offering guests a unique and immersive stay. The line cook at the Statler Hotel is responsible for executing daily prep tasks, including cutting ingredients, setting up the production line, and preparing food with accuracy and speed. They ensure food safety by monitoring and recording temperatures and maintain cleanliness of the work area. Additionally, they provide functional guidance and training for student cooks while collaborating with front-of-house staff to ensure a quality customer experience. The role requires maintaining professionalism, supporting teammates, and adhering to operating standards during shift closures. Reporting to the Sous Chef or Manager, the line cook may also perform other duties as assigned.  Work schedules are variable based on business needs and may require morning, night, weekend, or holiday availability. 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience cooking in a restaurant, hotel, or resort
  • Understanding of cooking methods and procedures, and knife handling skills
  • Ability to perform tasks with accuracy, speed, and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and follow cooking directions
  • Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be organized and self-motivated
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stretch, and lift, and carry heavy materials

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree from an accredited College or University with a focus on Culinary Arts
