The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) organization is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Design & Analysis Engineer – Digital & Analog Circuits to join the Transport Data Systems (TDS) Airborne Data Acquisition and Recording hardware team in Seattle, WA.
About Us:
The Transport Data Systems (TDS) group is a vital part of the Northwest (NW) Flight Test Engineering (FTE) organization, under the Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) umbrella. TDS is responsible for a comprehensive line of products, both hardware and software, use to perform flight testing of all Boeing Commercial and Military Derivative Airplanes (BCA / MDA), primarily in the northwest region. Our team is structured around the products and services we provide, focusing on acquiring, recording, storing, analyzing, and managing data that characterizes each test.
Each product and service is supported by a dedicated team, including a management leader and a team leader, ensuring that our offerings are developed, maintained, and supported effectively. Depending on the scope of development, we may establish dedicated project teams to focus on specific initiatives.
Position Responsibilities Include:
Collaborate with customers to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements
Develop instrumentation and data-system software, integrate it with hardware platforms, and conduct system tests to ensure designs meet operational and functional requirements
Analyze and translate requirements into system, hardware, and software designs, creating interface specifications that aggregate test data from multiple aircraft sensors, perform real-time calculations, display results to test crews, and maintain data archive systems for post-test analysis
Monitor supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fielded hardware and software throughout the product lifecycle
Research and evaluate specific technology advancements for potential application to business needs, demonstrating new capabilities to end users
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
2+ years of experience in electrical circuit design using components, such as microcontrollers, field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), analog-to-digital converters (ADC) and digital-to-analog converters (DAC)
2+ experience with development, test and implementation of image processing and computer vision algorithms and systems in Matlab and/or embedded software environments (typically C/C++)
2+ years of experience with use of laboratory test equipment, including logic analyzers and digital oscilloscopes
2+ experience with developing, documenting and maintaining complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, software-to-hardware interfaces and designs for software systems
Working knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, etc.
Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
3+ years of relevant experience
Understanding of electronics, microcontrollers architecture and interfaces such as UART, SPI and I2C
Basic understanding of electronics and reading of electrical schematic and component datasheets
Additional software development languages and tools (e.g., Docker, Django, LabVIEW)
Experience with Software DevOps tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, GitLab, CI/CD)
Strong knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps)
Experience with Linux system configuration and package management
Familiarity with instrumentation and data systems, including sensor calibration and real-time data processing
Understanding of flight-test methodologies and aircraft certification requirements
Knowledge of aircraft data-bus and data-system I/O protocols (e.g., ARINC 429, CAN, 1553)
Experience with software build and test automation tools
Understanding of object-oriented software design principles and software testing methodologies, including test-driven development
Proficient in various operating systems (e.g., Windows, Unix, Linux
