Test Software Engineer

Avegant is seeking a Test Software Engineer to contribute to their cutting-edge near eye display technology. The position will be best filled by a highly-motivated person with 3 to 5 years of experience with python programming  and test software development. This position will be responsible for developing custom test software to facilitate the building, testing, debugging, quality control, and mass production of Avegant light engine display systems. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a revolutionary technology in a fast-growing field. This position will work closely with our mechanical engineering, optical and industrial design teams as well as our contract manufacturer. This position reports to the Director of Software.

The salary range for this position is $115,000-$140,000 depending on experience. Other benefits include stock options, full medical, dental, vision benefits, 401k matching, unlimited PTO, office snacks, and team lunches.

The role is an in-office role, at our office located in San Mateo, CA, within walking distance of Caltrain.

Responsibilities: 

• Develop test software used for optical metrology using python, opencv to measure brightness, contrast, MTF, uniformity.   Interface to third party hardware and software including cameras, power meters, spectrometers, and other test equipment.
• Automate and optimize test software for use in the factory.  
• Work with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop test fixtures, processes, and documentation to support the success of the manufacturing line.
• Automate data collection and reporting using Google Workspace APIs and JMP.
• Contribute to the bring-up of manufacturing at our Contract Manufacturer in order to meet production schedules, quality, and cost objectives.
• Support technical operations to ensure consistent execution of our CM’s quality and production plans.
• Participate in the development process of product design and R&D efforts to ensure systems are tested and validated.
• Take ownership and drive tasks independently as prioritized by management.
• Some international travel in Asia required

Qualifications: 

• Interest in tackling challenging problems, identifying, and discussing solutions supported by data 
• Willingness to try new solutions and share challenges and roadblocks 
• A “how can I help” mindset 
• Curiosity, humility 
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent
• 3 to 5 years of experience as a software engineer
• Python and object oriented  programming experience required
• C, C++, C#, Java, git experience a plus
• Experience developing test software
• Experience with optical metrology, testing brightness, contrast, uniformity, color a bonus
• Experience using process driven and analytical approaches to problem-solving
• Direct experience with manufacturing test software and test software automation
• Experience with near-eye displays a plus
• Solid communication skills, ability to work in multinational environments
