Job Description
The Role:
We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join the Active Chassis Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation calibration team as a Calibration Technical Specialist at GM’s Milford Proving Ground. The VDSE Calibration Technical Specialist is responsible for indirectly leading a team of VDSE Calibration Engineers to produce high-quality, on-time deliverables for all vehicle programs using common methods, processes, and procedures. The selected candidate will also have a unique opportunity to influence and develop future VDSE architectures and controls strategies. The ideal candidate should possess comprehensive experience in both performance calibration and algorithm development within the VDSE feature area, as well as demonstrated leadership, planning, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills.
What You’ll Do:
Provide technical leadership for calibration within the product area and serve as the voice of calibration into architecture, software, and program teams
Develop common approaches and institutionalize them in Calibration Standard Work (Calibration Procedures, Deliverables, Master Calibration, etc.)
Improve the efficiency and quality of standard work by systematically driving present vehicle-based tasks into virtual (HiL, SiL, CoSim packages)
Mentor Calibration Engineers, providing technical training and establishing good communication and knowledge-sharing
Support Calibration Engineers to ensure high-quality, on-time deliveries and flawless launches
Collaborate closely with software/controls engineers to understand system functions
Collaborate with calibration engineers to troubleshoot and resolve calibration- and software-related issues that arise during development and production
Support and approve software change requests related to VDSE
Support technical calibration peer reviews and leadership reviews
Lead the Calibration Technical Review Board (TRB): set agenda, drive decisions, track actions, and ensure issues and lessons learned feed back into methods and standards
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar
Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering experience (vehicle dynamics, chassis/driveline performance, brake controls, calibration, etc.)
Demonstrated initiative to drive for results in areas of innovation and new development
Thorough physics-based knowledge of vehicle dynamics, brake systems, tire performance
Experience calibrating VDSE on production programs
Thorough knowledge of VDSE algorithms, models, and calibrations
Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and motivate the performance of a cross-functional team and achieve substantial influence without administrative authority
Exercise independent judgment with minimal input from leaders
High level of analytical problem-solving skills where problems are unusual and difficult
Strong understanding of C/C++ s
