About the role

Position Summary

The primary goal of this position is to inform the public about the City's parks, aiming to foster a positive attitude toward nature and the environment. Huguenot Memorial Park stands out as one of the most ecologically significant City parks, serving not only as a popular spot for recreation but also as Duval County’s premier birding location. The individuals will work closely with the Parks Naturalist, assisting with various tasks related to resource management of the park. In the summer months, the focus will be on the large seabird colony and nesting shorebirds, including listed species, with opportunities to band chicks and improve nesting habitat. Individuals will also participate in Sea Turtle Nest Survey Training and be listed on the park’s Marine Turtle Permit, contributing to sea turtle conservation efforts. Individuals maintain the park’s nature center, which is open 3 hours daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and on weekends during the off-season, offering the opportunity for hands-on ambassador animal handling and visitor education. During the off-season, responsibilities include invasive species removal, updating and creating displays for the nature center, and reviewing data collected during the nesting season. Individuals will gain hands-on experience in biological surveys, wildlife protection through public education, invasive species management, and monitoring sea turtle nesting success.
