In 2019 alone, LLCHC served more than 12,000 patients, including 40% who were uninsured, and provided over 50,000 medical encounters.
Work Location
This position is primarily based at our 1160 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio health center and our 777 W. State Street, Franklinton, Ohio location's. Team members may be required to travel to other LLCHC locations throughout Central Ohio to meet patient care and operational needs.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm with occasional Saturday morning coverage. No evening or third-shift hours.
Job Summary
The Medical Assistant prepares patients for examinations and procedures while providing clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate medical records, supporting quality control and regulatory compliance, and fostering positive relationships with patients, providers, staff, and the public. The Medical Assistant plays an integral role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care that reflects LLCHC's mission and values.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
Obtain and document vital signs and health information for adult and pediatric patients.
Assist providers during examinations, minor procedures, PAP smears, physicals, and other treatments.
Perform in-office testing and treatments.
Collect laboratory specimens, including blood and urine samples.
Administer medications and immunizations as ordered by the provider.
Provide patient education and instructions for testing and follow-up care.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Patient Services & Administrative Support
Greet and assist patients and visitors in a courteous, professional manner.
Room patients and verify demographic and medical information.
Schedule follow-up appointments and provide after-visit summaries.
Communicate effectively with patients, utilizing approved interpretation services (Cyracom, Propio, or onsite interpreters) for in-person and telephone communication when appropriate.
Accurately scan and maintain patient documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
Complete provider-directed patient follow-up calls.
Process prescription refills and communicate with pharmacies as directed by providers.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, assessments, education, and telephone communications.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, infection prevention, and universal precaution standards.
Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly quality control and compliance logs.
Assist with vaccine storage and temperature monitoring.
Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and fire safety protocols.
Clinic Operations
Prepare and stock examination rooms and treatment areas.
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment according to policy.
Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to leadership.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
Support operational needs by providing coverage at other LLCHC locations as assigned.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
