Job Summary:

This position serves as the Legal Assistant for the Legal Division of the ICA. It provides high -level paralegal/secretarial support to a group of litigating attorneys and for the Executive Staff Assistant position.


This position may offer the ability to work hybrid/remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. This position is not 100% remote, you will be required to come into the Phoenix office.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● Provides paralegal/legal secretary drafting and litigation support requiring considerable knowledge of legal procedures, forms, and documents and a high degree of legal skills to litigating attorneys; prepares a variety of legal correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents using technical knowledge and expertise; completes legal documents including letters, discovery, court filings, pleadings, and agreements, with strong written and organizational skills while using a legal case management system. A thorough knowledge of the litigation process and documents in order to support and assist attorneys in their case management; timely completes necessary legal filings with administrative and other courts; creates, processes, updates, and maintains legal case files; assists in processing and responding to Court of Appeals Writs; assist in processing of Court of Appeals Mandates; assist in certifying the ICA record for Superior Court; assist assigned attorneys, as needed, with calendaring, scheduling and tracking of deadlines and other legal events; updates and maintains case files in the case management system and maintains and updates calendar for assigned attorneys.
● Confers regularly with supervisors, assigned attorneys, and Legal Division staff, presenting and resolving problems or questions, discussing plans and actions to be taken, making decisions; participates in team efforts to implement and adhere to principles of the Arizona Management System. Cover for other members of the team as needed.
● Confers and collaborates with representatives from other divisions of the Commission and members of the public to acquire and give information requiring some judgment or discretion regarding case matters, forms, pleadings, and processes.

● The Legal Division's purposes, goals, organization, workflows, equipment, and processes, including administrative and office procedures.
● Basic concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures related to Federal, State, and agency laws pertaining to workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, debt collection, and labor violations.
● Administrative hearing and court rules and procedures.
● The content, organization, and format of legal documents and correspondence.
● Good knowledge of the methods and techniques of legal research, including the use of statutes, codes, and other legal resources.
● Google Suite, Word, Salesforce.
