Currently, ManTech is actively seeking a motivated, customer-oriented Electro-Optical Systems Engineer to join our team in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area.
ManTech's Air Force and Space Division is recruiting highly talented candidates to support a contract that provides cradle to grave support to the United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) Assured Access to Space (AATS) National Security Space Launch (NSSL) program (formerly the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program).
We provide services and support in a multitude of areas, including Systems Engineering & Integration, Acquisition & Program Management Support, Mission Integration Management, System Safety & Environmental Engineering, Systems Security & Information Assurance, Launch Schedule and Risk Management, Digital Engineering, Certification of New Entrant Launch Vehicles, and more.
Electro-Optical Systems Engineer position with a small, agile team focused on design, test, and analysis of electro-optical systems in support of a classified program. Work environment includes both hands-on hardware work in a laboratory environment and office-based analysis work. Job responsibilities include:
- Laboratory testing involving lasers
- Laser-induced damage testing
- Laser projectors
Experience with laboratory safe-work procedures highly desired, such as:
- Lasers
- Liquid nitrogen
- Use of hazardous materials such as paints, adhesives, and solvents
- Optical and opto-mechanical design and fabrication
- Designing, prototyping, and building projectors for lasers and LEDs
- Familiarity with mechanical components and suppliers highly desired – will be procuring a variety of hardware (e.g. lenses and filters)
- Stray-light analysis
- Optical benches with mounts for various components for laser beam control and precision optical measurements
- Assembly of opto-mechanical systems
- Skill in precisely aligning optics highly desired
- Previous hands-on experience highly desired
- Expertise in Zemax and/or FRED highly desired
- Engineering programming and data analysis
- Expertise in Matlab and/or Python highly desired
- This activity has periods of extensive lab/hardware work and periods of primarily analysis work. When not in the lab/fabrication area, the ideal candidate is able and willing to support data analysis and engineering/scientific problem solving on a variety of topics in the general area of laser and electro-optical system design, performance, and testing.
- Technical communication skills: position requires drafting of engineering memoranda and presentation of technical briefings
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's of Science in a STEM Discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of experience, A Master's of Science with 8 years of experience is acceptable.
- Must be a US Citizen
- Have an active TS/SCI with CI Poly OR have a DoD Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance to start
Occasional travel
- Every 12-18 months, a trip of up to 14 days duration may be required
- A few trips of 2-5 days duration per year may be required
- Occasional night-shift work
- May be done in Albuquerque or at customer location in another state
- Every 12-18 months, night shift work of up to 14 contiguous nights may be required
Requires relocation to Albuquerque, NM; remote work is not an option. Most work must be done on site; work that can be done at home, accounts for only a very small number of hours.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.
- Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- Frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
