Position Overview
The Hospice House Aide provides personal care for patients residing in the Ida Emmerson Hospice House (IEHH).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides personal care of patients, including but not limited to, assisting the patient with all aspects of personal care, ambulation, positioning and feeding as required.
- Prepares and serves meals to IEHH patients and performs housekeeping duties.
- Provides support to the family/caregiver regarding personal care and participation in desired activities of the patient.
- Provide administrative support such as answering the telephone and greeting visitors.
- Hospice of Humboldt may assign the Hospice House Aide to any workplace setting based on Hospice of Humboldt’s needs including office, RCFE, SNF and the patient’s home
- Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, assisting the IEHH Clinical Administrator and/or other Clinical Managers in providing support for the Nursing Department.
Schedule Requirements
- Must sign-up for a minimum one (1) 16-hour after-hours back-up On-Call shift per month/schedule period. After hours back-up On-Call shifts are from 1700-0900.
- The full-time Hospice House Aide must be able to work a minimum of three (3) weekend shifts (Fri. and/or Sat. NOC; Sat. and/or Sunday DAYS) each month, as needed for scheduling.
- The half-time Hospice House Aide must be able to work a minimum of two (2) weekend shifts (Fri. and/or Sat. NOC; Sat. and/or Sunday DAYS) each month, as needed for scheduling.
- The per diem Hospice House Aide must be available to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month/schedule period. After-hours back-up On-Call shifts may be substituted for work shifts with supervisor approval.
Environmental Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Routinely performing procedures or other tasks that could involve exposure to blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials.
- Working with Hospice patients in the IEHH, the patient’s home, SNF, and RCFE settings. The conditions in homes and facilities vary with each patient.
- Providing own transportation to patients’ places of residence, when necessary.
- Successfully performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the position which requires:
- regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, driving a car, use of hands, talking, listening, and observing.
- regularly requires reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
- regularly requires pulling patients to the side of the bed on a draw sheet, to a sitting position from the supine, or forward and up out of bed or chair in preparation for performing a standing pivot transfer.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Current California Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certificate.
- Valid Driver’s License, excellent driving record, proof of acceptable automobile insurance coverage, and reliable transportation.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to write and maintain proper documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an acute-care setting.
- Experience in hospice or home health.
- Experience working effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
- CHPNA certification.
