As a Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate and Investment Banking Channels Payments Technology, you play a crucial role in an agile team that is dedicated to improving, creating, and delivering trusted, top-tier technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable manner. As a fundamental technical leader, your responsibilities include providing technical coaching and advisory to multiple technical teams, as well as foreseeing the requirements and potential dependencies of other functions within the company. You are also tasked with implementing critical technology solutions across various technical areas within different business functions to support the company's business goals. As a specialist in your field, your insights have a significant impact on budget and technical considerations, promoting operational efficiencies and functionalities.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead teams of technologists with ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives.
  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies.
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
  • Work on architecture & design for modernizing and transforming our client facing platform into a cloud first solution.
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use with excellent documentation.
  • Optimize our services to scale from the outset with telemetry.
  • Strive for continuous improvement through active participation in team, J.P. Morgan community and site-wide activities.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. In addition, demonstrated coaching and mentoring experience.
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Advanced in one or more programming language(s) including  Java, Python.
  • Strong development background in Spring Boot, RDBMS, RESTful APIs, Kubernetes, Kafka, Cassandra.
  • A strong team player with excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Public Cloud & related Technologies (ECS, S3, Lambda, Elastic Search, MongoDB, Athena, Glue).
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods with hands on experience with SDLC, CI/CD toolsets, Automation, standard IDEs.
  • Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle with advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of the various software architecture solution patterns, financial services industry and their IT systems.
  • Practical cloud native experience.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • AWS experience.
  • Cloud computing and micro services experience.
  • Experience working at code level.
