Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 per year depending upon education, experience, skill set and location.

Reports to:  California Groundwater Practice Lead

We help develop and manage groundwater resources and ensure the long-term sustainability and reliability of this invaluable resource. As an example, we have long been a champion of using aquifer storage and recovery technologies to save water for drought conditions and provide environmental benefits to fish and streams which may be impacted by development and climate change.

We are seeking an early-career hydrogeologist/water resources engineer to support our water resources team on a wide variety of projects, including regional hydrologic studies, water supply development, well drilling, well rehabilitation, aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) program development, and water resource management. Our early-career Hydrogeologists provide essential technical support in data collection, data analysis, reporting, regulatory compliance and collaborative problem-solving. They work alongside mid-level and senior-level project managers to gain hands-on experience in conducting field investigations, analyzing hydrogeological data, and developing innovative solutions to real world environmental challenges.

In this role you will:

• Oversee field explorations and construction projects.
• Collect and document hydrogeologic data; such as soil, water, and geologic samples.
• Write field reports and participate in data analysis and report production and compilation.
• Research literature and historical information.
• Complete routine technical analyses with supervision.
• Deliver work products for projects involving basin analyses; aquifer characterization; well design, construction oversight, and testing; aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) and aquifer recharge (AR) feasibility studies and program support; and well rehabilitation.
• May participate in project management tasks such as project budgeting and proposal writing.
• May handle small projects or assist with tasks on larger projects to develop project management skills.
• Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job is conducted largely in a professional office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers.

Fieldwork activities may involve lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and walking over uneven terrain.

Travel to project sites, client meetings, and regulatory agencies as needed. Travel frequency will vary depending on project locations and requirements but, in general, will comprise approximately 20-25% of work time. Project areas are generally local, or within an approximately a two-hour drive and may, on occasion, require an overnight stay.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

• Ability to obtain a professional registration/license as geologist or hydrogeologist or professional engineer in California
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Required Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain the required knowledge and abilities include:

• BS degree in geology, water resource engineering, natural resources planning, hydrogeology, or a closely related field
• 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in groundwater supply and/or water resource management projects
