Your Role at Baxter
Join our team as a Senior Manager – Tax Controversy, where you'll play a critical role in managing Baxter's complex tax disputes and providing strategic support to the transfer pricing function. As a seasoned tax professional, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to defend the company's position in tax audits and disputes, develop and maintain critical tax documentation, and support transfer pricing policy for a complex multinational enterprise.
What you'll be doing
Collaborate with tax department personnel and outside advisors to manage federal tax audits with an emphasis on transfer pricing and complex international transactions
Support US tax, foreign tax, and payroll colleagues in audits of sales and use, state, foreign, and employment tax matters, and serve as primary contact on Canadian income tax and PST/GST audits
Draft memos and other correspondence in response to tax audit requests
Participate in status calls, presentations, site visits, interviews, settlement discussions, and other proceedings with IRS and state/local/foreign tax auditors
Coordinate with tax provision team to determine appropriate reserves for uncertain tax positions related to periods under audit
Collaborate with regional tax leads to manage foreign audits, work with outside advisors to determine audit strategy, and assist in preparing memos and other correspondence for tax authorities
Update VP of Tax, CFO, and other business leaders on the status of material audits and resulting tax exposures
Work with tax planning team to assist in transfer pricing related aspects of international tax planning projects, acquisitions, dispositions, and intercompany restructuring transactions
Support Treasury team in determining arm's length returns for intercompany financing transactions and initiatives to improve legal entity cash forecasting
Provide tax support for valuation of legal entities and intangible property in the context of M&A and internal restructuring transactions
Work with outside advisors and tax authorities on tax treaty matters including requests for Competent Authority relief and Advance Pricing Agreements
What you'll bring
7+ years of experience in tax controversy and transfer pricing, with a focus on complex multinational enterprises
Experience working cross-functionally with other teams (treasury, accounting, legal) as well as colleagues in other countries
Strong knowledge of transfer pricing rules and regulations, including IRS section 482 regulations and OECD transfer pricing guidelines
Work experience with an employer or client having a complex multinational legal entity structure with valuable intangible property and significant international intercompany transactions
Knowledge of IRS practice and procedure related to complex international audits and ideally knowledge of procedures related to state/local, payroll, and foreign tax audits
Familiarity with ASC740 treatment of uncertain tax positions related to ongoing audits
Experience with financial modeling related to transfer pricing, tax audits, and legal entity valuations
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with non-tax business partners and stakeholders
