The Sr Mgr Technology Business Partner reports directly to the VP of Financial Planning & Analysis while maintaining a line of communication with Regional Directors, other Business Partners, and management teams. The BP is responsible for providing support and analysis to regional and division management that leads to decision-making in all areas of the company. This support and analysis are focused on evaluating strategic alternatives and new business opportunities; it also encompasses the operational and Continuous Improvement (CI) metrics that are central to the metal recycling process. This position is responsible for analyzing and presenting financial, operational and CI results related to metals processing technology to regional and corporate management. The incumbent develops and implements plans to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of various functions including recommending system and process improvements. The BP challenges conventional thinking to obtain the most efficient solutions to issues, and uses best practices, benchmarks, and metrics to improve the organization. This position participates as necessary in new financial system implementations and upgrades. The BP can be called upon to manage regional, divisional, and corporate projects and provide ongoing day-to-day finance support to operations.
This position operates within somewhat flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of operational finances. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.
Essential Functions:
- Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
- Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
- Operational Performance & Best Business Practices
- Collects, analyzes, and presents financial and operational results and associated CI metrics related to metals processing technology to operational, regional, and divisional management.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on the financial and operational drivers of the business; disseminates information on a routine basis to operations management.
- Proactively prepares consultation, interpretation, and education materials on financial and operational matters.
- Collaborate with General Managers and Regional Directors to quantify and evaluate potential growth opportunities.
- Performs analyses, as requested, to support varied business decisions.
- Collects data and works on complex phases of financial studies.
- Prepares capital commitment requests (AFE) and IRR analyses for the region, ensuring that returns meet desired thresholds.
- Reviews progress reports on expenses and other deliverables/expectations set out in the AFE, as well as the monthly fixed asset reconciliation.
- Works in coordination with Finance and Accounting to confirm accurate Oracle coding and cost centers, AFE, invoices, etc.
- Works in conjunction with the Operations Analyst and other CI team members to learn from shared experiences and improve the value of the program
- Improves accuracy and comparability of reporting across regions to identify gaps in performance.
- Documents and transfers knowledge across regions on ways to improve processes.
- Evolves the company’s existing set of Key Performance Indicators to be better drivers of performance.
- Assists in driving continuous improvement initiatives within operations.
- Inventory & Quality Control
- Communicates monthly results and supports operations in their efforts to improve inventory management.
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Processes the regional month-end operational financial data, inventory management, consolidation of results, account analysis and forecast vs. actual variance analysis related to metals processing technology.
- In coordination with Finance/Accounting, assists with the preparation of monthly regional forecasts and annual planning.
- Prepares and/or reviewing support for union negotiations, Board of Director presentations, and capital project analysis and follow-up, etc.
- Perform ad-hoc requests as needed.
- Equipment Maintenance
- Provides analysis such as “make vs. buy” or “lease vs. buy” to the purchasing manager and maintenance manager in their efforts to select cost-effective manners to procure parts and machinery.
- Reviews leases and contracts to provide lowest-cost terms and conditions.
- Administrative Management
- Interviews prospective management and/or production employees.
- Works with Human Resources personnel to prepare job descriptions.
