About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team, specializing in dynamic modeling and simulation of mechanical assemblies. The role focuses on modeling rigid and compliant bodies, predicting stresses, and estimating component life using advanced tools, including MASTA, to ensure the reliability and performance of mechanical systems. This position requires expertise in finite element analysis (FEA), multibody dynamics (MBD), fatigue analysis, and MASTA for gear and transmission systems, along with a collaborative approach to support design optimization.

The person in this role must demonstrate characteristics which foster team progress, show diligence in daily tasks, be able to mentor other team members, and take the initiative to take on challenging assignments.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and simulate dynamic models of mechanical assemblies using rigid and compliant body dynamics.
  • Utilize MASTA to analyze gear systems, transmissions, and drivetrains for performance, durability, and noise/vibration characteristics.
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) to predict stresses, strains, and deformations under operational conditions.
  • Conduct fatigue and durability analyses to estimate component life and ensure long-term reliability.
  • Collaborate with design and testing teams to validate models against experimental data and refine designs.
  • Optimize mechanical systems for performance, weight, and cost while meeting durability and safety requirements.
  • Write reports for summarizing analysis results, providing actionable recommendations, and presenting findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Stay updated on advancements in simulation tools, materials, and modeling techniques to enhance analysis accuracy.

QULIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field (master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in dynamic modeling, FEA, multibody dynamics, and gear/transmission analysis.
  • Proficiency in MASTA for gear and drivetrain simulation, including load distribution, efficiency, and NVH analysis.
  • Expertise in simulation software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, MSC ADAMS, or Siemens Simcenter.
  • Strong understanding of rigid body dynamics, compliant body modeling, and stress analysis.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis tools (e.g., nCode, FE-SAFE) and component life prediction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, Unigraphics NX) for geometry preparation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex simulation results.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical findings.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with coupled MBD-FEA workflows for integrated dynamic and stress analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge of material science, including metals, composites, and polymers, for accurate modeling preferred.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for fatigue, durability, and gear design (e.g., ISO, AGMA, ASTM) preferred.
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation of simulation workflows preferred.
  • Experience with Altair HyperWorks a plus.
