Project Overview:

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide technical leadership in the design and development of fire protection systems and equipment. You will lead on-site system evaluations, review and approve contractors’ submittals, attend contract meetings, and assist in determining needed changes and with final testing. Your work will lead the implementation of programs and procedures that promote fire safety.

Major Responsibilities:

Level 1

• Participates in the design, design approvals, and development of Fire Protection systems and equipment including sprinkler, fire pump, fire alarm and mass notification systems in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements
• Participate and approve Fire Hazards Analysis and fire protection assessments
• Analyzes life safety requirements for buildings, including building code compliance, occupancy determination, occupant load calculations and egress analysis
• Performs on-site fire protection system evaluations and assists with final system testing. Performs building and fire code analyses and interpretations
• Provides technical guidance in review of engineering analyses and engineering judgments for alternative fire barrier systems, opening protectives, and penetration firestops
• Participates in pre-award meetings, as appropriate. Attends post-award contract meetings, such as post-award kickoff meetings (PAK), preconstructi
