Development Operations (DO) Instrumentation Design Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer. The Instrumentation Project Engineer is responsible for leading the design and fabrication of instrumentation hardware, that provides critical measurements for both military and commercial engines. The designs include major station probes, blade tip clearance probes, optical blade tip timing probes, slip rings, fan blade out packages & telemetry packages. Our hardware is used to collect data during the testing of every engine in the Pratt and Whitney portfolio.

What You Will Do

  • Responsibilities may include working on tasks related to commercial engines, military engines or both depending on business need. May be required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Development of Basis of Estimates (BOE) for commercial and government proposals.
  • Provide project management to the Integrated Product Team (IPT).
  • Manage program/task budgets, schedules, and procurement of the designed instrumentation hardware.
  • Performs risks assessments and develop mitigation plan as needed. 
  • The position requires excellent communication and team leadership skills as well as the ability to operate across a wide range of disciplines and management levels with both internal and external customers to ensure that task requirements are met.
  • Travel approximately 10%

What You Will Learn

  • Candidates hired will begin their first 2 years at Pratt & Whitney as part of the Engineering Development Program (EDP) under the Development Operations (DO) or Product Safety, Certification, Validation & Engineering Quality (PSCV&EQ) Organization. This consists of three rotations of approximately 8-months in duration in three different departments across either or both of our two organizations (DO/PSCV&EQ).
  • Upon their 2-year graduation, they will return to their hiring department (1st rotation) for at least 1 year. The intent of our EDP is to offer breadth & depth in various technical experiences through challenging positions available in our organizations. This program will help expand your professional and technical competencies that will serve as the foundation for exceptional contributions that you will make at Pratt & Whitney.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with Project Management toolsets (e.g. MS Project).
  • Experience solving technical problems with minimal direction.
  • Experience with standard manufacturing methods.
  • Experience communicating clear and effective messages to a broad audience
