Software Engineer (Backend), Square Banking Inflows

The Role

The Square Checking product helps business owners access primary banking products and manage their cash flow. Sellers need table stakes banking features like receiving ACH transfers and checks. We aim to provide our sellers access to their money faster than any competitor because managing their cash flow is imperative to growing their business.

As a software engineer on the Checking Inflows team, you'll implement new seller-facing features for our checking product, help us rebuild and rearchitect the services that power them, and expand access to more Square sellers. You will design and build sophisticated financial systems with a focus on scalability and maintainability. To achieve this, you will collaborate with engineering peers, data scientists, and partners with the goal of improving sellers' ability to manage their cash flow. Example projects include:

• Expand the ways sellers can deposit money into their Square Checking account
• Launch a creative way for sellers to receive payouts of their sales instantly from platforms like DoorDash and UberEats
• Funding ACH transfers and check deposits earlier than competitors

You Will

• Support major programs to expand access to credit for our sellers and improve our backend systems.
• Work with Engineering, Product, and Design to build software that is clean and well-tested.
• Implement your features end-to-end, including component design, implementation, testing, roll-out and maintenance.
• Partner with web and platform engineers to ship seller-facing features.
• Work with designers, product managers, data scientists, and other developers to understand our problem space and create elegant solutions.
• Become an expert in multiple technical areas of the team and the technologies we use.
• Build tools and features that refine loan operations for other teams.
• Collaborate with and learn from senior engineers and tech leads to grow your technical expertise.

You Have

• BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience building products end to end with other experienced engineers: creating engineering designs, building the code, writing tests, deploying changes, addressing bugs, and iterating
• An interest in working with partners across Product, Design, Data Science, Operations among other departments
• Familiarity with backend technologies such as Kotlin and AWS
