About the role

ASSESSMENT: Performs patient assessment that is systemic, comprehensive and accurate. Gathers, interprets, and records baseline maternal-fetal information accurately.  Assesses psychological and educational needs of the patient and significant others/family.   DIAGNOSIS: Identifies patient needs and problems. Analyzes assessment data to determine relevant patient diagnosis. Performs fetal surveillance testing procedures according to established protocols and perinatal standards of practice. Performs all procedures and treatments according to established nursing procedures and standards of practice. Administers treatments according to physician orders and protocols Performs triage of patients via telephone and when walking in using approved protocols     IMPLEMENTATION: Delegates responsibility to others appropriately. Implements Evidence Based current nursing practice guidelines and standards to provide patient care. Integrates and implements nursing practice across the continuum of care. Prior to patient arrival, assure all ordered diagnostic results/reports are available for physician review. Triage phone calls utilizing assessment skills to evaluate the patient’s chief complaint and urgency of the problem.   EVALUATION: Evaluates effectiveness of intervention. Evaluates individualized patient goals by utilizing established policies and standards of care including treatment protocols and critical pathways/clinical guidelines.   DOCUMENTATION: Documents all patient communications and maintains patient confidentiality. Documents in a timely manner. Documents the patient’s and family’s response to therapies and nursing interventions including the achievement of goals. Documents patient/family teaching/learning information. Identifies need to revise forms, policies, and procedures relative to documentation.   Recognizes emergency situations and reacts appropriately. Maintains a safe and clean patient care environment. Demonstrates a leadership role in the event of an emergency and the knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment.   SPECIMENS/RESULTS: Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection per hospital guidelines. Handles all specimens using universal precautions. Completes lab forms and manages specimens according to guidelines. Assures the physician receives all lab reports in a timely fashion. Special attention given to abnormal results. Monitor all test results ordered on patients and patient compliance.    EDUCATION: Demonstrates professional practice responsibility; fulfills mandatory education obligations. Identifies areas for clinical and professional growth. Attends pertinent educational offerings.   ADMINISTRATION:  Collaborates with physicians, staff members and other specialty caregivers to optimize patient and family care. Participates in Peer Review Process and in Unit Based Shared Governance. Interacts with all staff members for problem solving. Assists with orientation of new employees. Complies with OSHA, JCAHO, DOH, CLIA and HIPAA guidelines. Acts as a positive role model for other clinical and clerical staff through attitude, performance and appearance. Monitor order and maintain medical supplies. Perform other duties as assigned by physician, site coordinator or practice manager. Demonstrates professional manner in all aspects of role.       Other Tasks Which May be Required: Certified Diabetes Educator       Required and/or Education/Experience: Fetal monitoring, ultrasound assessment, BCLS  

 

Required:
1.    Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
2.    Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
3.    BLS certification.

Preferred:
1.    Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
a.    All ASN must complete their BSN studies within five years of their start date.
2.    Master’s degree in nursing or related field.
3.    1+ year of experience in Women's Health Nursing or relevant area.
