If you are an Engineering professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an opening for you! Based in our Sidney, OH location, you will implement fast-paced, time-sensitive scroll compressor development projects for the Residential and Light Commercial Air Conditioning and Heating business unit. This role is for someone with a passion for new product engineering and development, along with teamwork, project management, customer communication, and problem-solving. You will support the evaluation, maturation, and development of scroll compression technologies focused on best-in-world efficiency and optimized for a new generation of environmentally friendly refrigerants.
As a Project Engineer, you will:
- Execute product development of one or more subsystems of the scroll compressor, including but not limited to: scroll compression components, motor and protector, shaft/journal bearing/thrust bearing system, pressure vessel, refrigerant and oil management, valving and shutdown device.
- Conceive and execute development and testing plans in alignment with program needs and schedule, including obtaining prototype components, building test samples, and analyzing/communicating results, conclusions, and next steps.
- Collaborate internal and external stakeholders (including sales, marketing, product planning, application engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams in support of product development, customer communications, and issue resolution.
- Develop proficiency/mastery in development calculators and engineering tools and models and modify/create new design and analysis tools as needed.
- Analyze & quantify value vs. applied cost of compression technologies in end-use applications.
- Apply and support the incorporation of Lean principles and techniques into the New Product Development process.
- Utilize critical thinking, an inquisitive approach, and high degree of independent engineering knowledge in your approach to your assigned projects.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Clearly and accurately communicate, both written and verbally, with peers, management, and customers
- Capable of applying technical knowledge to make independent decisions and recommendations to optimally resolve issues
- Ability to lead, handle, and prioritize multiple assignments
- Demonstrate strong project management skills, including developing program schedules and aiding team decisions
- Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Prior experience in a technical field, including co-ops or internships
- Demonstrated product development experience
- HVAC/R experience/familiarity
- Experience with high-speed rotating equipment
- Domain proficiency in one or more of the following domains: applied physics, machine design, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials, fatigue/fracture mechanics, and/or bearing design
