Summary:
Hitachi America, Ltd. (www.hitachi-america.us) is looking for a Ph.D./Master’s degree holder in biomechanical engineering, mechanical/industrial engineering, electrical engineering, applied ergonomics related field to join our Research & Development team as a researcher to contribute in the area of Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0. The Researcher will be involved in research related to Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 with an emphasis on safety and ergonomics. The Researcher will collaborate with HAL Researchers, Hitachi R&D in Japan and industry partners as well as customers on Smart Manufacturing. This position will require sound knowledge in applied ergonomics, human motion analysis, kinesiology, machining learning etc. The position requires the researcher to work as a team member with good communication and written skills.

The candidate will work in close collaboration with HAL Researchers and Hitachi R&D in Japan
The candidate should be capable of working with industry partners and customers, identifying customers’ needs & challenges, and proposing & conducting solution design/implementation/verification.
Ability to design, implement and apply knowledge in ergonomics in industrial settings like manufacturing and warehouse operations.
The candidate should leverage Industry 4.0 elements to improve health, safety, performance and productivity of manufacturing and operations.
Ability to conceive proof of concept ideas and then scale them up to production and industrial settings.
The candidate must have the ability to make plans and execute them. He/she will perform complex process and system analysis with a high level of analytical ability.
Periodic generation of invention disclosures based on research outcome.
Publish technical papers and attend/present at conferences and seminars.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a Master or PhD degree in biomechanical engineering, mechanical/industrial engineering, electrical engineering, applied ergonomics related field is required.
Deep understanding in vision-based and or sensor-based human motion/activity analysis is required.
Deep knowledge of various sensors like imaging, inertia, force, temperature etc., as well as sensor data processing and analysis is required.
Deep understanding in both classic and machine learning based data analytics like SVM, RF, CNNs (especially LSTM) on human movement and ergonomics data is required.
Experience with human body modeling, pose estimation, motion/action analytics is required.
Expertise in data collection from human subjects using IMU sensors (e.g., Xsens sensors), Force Platforms, EMG, and other wearable technologies is required.
