The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
We have an opportunity for a motivated Modeling and Design Section Leader with experience in mechanical computer aided design. The Section Leader will work with the Department Manager and rest of the leadership team in the execution of Mechanical Engineering and Hardware Engineering goals. This modeling leader will influence and shape MCAD technology adoption within the department and Mechanical Engineering organization. Expect as a section lead, to supervise a team of around 15 diverse individuals working closely with section members on their performance and career development goals. The manager will also be responsible for managing and maintaining section capabilities as well as ensuring programs are adequately staffed with design and modeling engineers. Management duties include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Candidates will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide technical expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities. The candidate will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance impact and recognition.
An advanced degree can be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Master’s is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Driving modeling & design process improvements such as: large assembly management techniques, modeling productivity and mechanical component selection effectiveness
Being a leader in documentation standards per ASME Y14.000 and the Raytheon Engineering Documentation Standards (EDS)
Ensuring correct update and distribution of engineering documentation following engineering change notices
Being up to date on documentation types per ASME Y14.24 in order to resolve and mediate conflicts per program documentation standards (PDS) for the department and key programs
Serving as the day-to-day liaison between section members and the programs they support across all program phases
Creatively applying mechanical engineering knowledge to efficiently solve complex design problems and make sound and rationale data oriented technical conclusions.
Qualities You Must Have:
Education: B.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
8+ years of experience in of design & modeling experience in CREO/ProEngineer
8+ years of documentation experience, including knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and associated standards
Prior leadership roles (frontline or project leader)
Experience in being an advocate for process improvement (eg CMMI, R6S), a team builder, and able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal resources.
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
