ChemE is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join the team. In this role, you will contribute to the department by maintaining lab inventory, independently maintaining lab instruments, equipment and facilities for teaching or research purposes without direct supervision.
Core responsibilities include:
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Independently maintains of lab instruments, equipment and facilities for teaching or research purposes.
- Ensures appropriate and safe handling of all lab stock and supplies. Instructs lab students in same. Enforces safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Performs some equipment or instrument repairs. Performs lab sets or preparation for experiments or instruction.
- Works with students to collect and tabulate homework and experiment reports.
- Conducts lab work requiring standard tests, routines and analysis. Documents results.

You should demonstrate:
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Walking and standing, bending and lifting are occasionally required. May be required to travel to and work at various locations on campus
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Years of experience:
- Research Lab Experience: 1-3 years
- Data Entry Experience: 1-3 years
- Record Management Experience: 1-3 years
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
