The Ares Quantitative Research Group (QRG) is a pioneer in the application of quantitative analytics to private markets. QRG works across asset classes – credit, private equity, private real estate, and infrastructure – to provide investible insights to Ares’ investment teams, to deepen relationships with Ares’ investors, and to help develop new products for the firm. The group is a leader in private market performance measurement, having played a key role in the development of Direct Alpha and Excess Value. It regularly deals with questions that are novel, taking advantage of Ares’ privileged access to data in private asset classes. QRG consists of two teams, Research and Software, and acts as a firm-wide hub, coordinating closely with quantitative resources that are embedded within Ares’ different investment teams!
Primary Functions & Responsibilities
We are seeking a Summer Analyst to join our Software team in Boston! Responsibilities include:
- Chip in to the design, development, and evaluation of proprietary software tools used in the assessment of private market investment opportunities
- Collaborate with users on the QRG Research team to understand use cases and requirements
- Work on data engineering projects to ingest, refine and structure data from a variety of sources for use in research projects and quantitative modeling tools
- Work on web application UI development projects to provide access to QRG tools and insights across Ares and Work on API development projects to enable integration of QRG software capabilities across quant teams at Ares

- Assist in DevOps initiatives to facilitate collaboration and gain efficiencies
Qualifications
Experience Required:
- Candidates for the Summer Analyst role must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in a software-oriented field (computer science, software engineering, data analysis) and preferably have completed coursework in a related quantitative field (finance, economics, math, statistics, data science).
- Have an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026
General Requirements:
- A general understanding of the software development process and financial markets
- Proficiency in C#.NET, SQL, Python and Excel
- The ability to work both independently and as a productive member of diverse teams
Location: Boston, MA
Duration: 10 weeks
Compensation: Paid Internship - the total base salary (subject to change) is expected to be $110,000 (prorated over 10 weeks)
