About the role

THE ROLE

The Providence Medical Group Chief Medical Officer (PMG-CMO) provides overall physician leadership to PMG for Montana, including the activities of all medical directors and oversight of all PMG primary and specialty care clinics. The PMG-CMO is responsible for all clinical activities, ensuring the highest quality of medical care delivered by PMG practitioners and support staff, achieving cost effective utilization of services provided, and oversees provider practice issues.  This position will be 0.6 Administrative and 0.4 Clinical.

The PMG-CMO and Chief Operations Officer (COO) for PMG Montana lead together in a dyad model and in collaboration with area leaders to enhance service throughout the entire continuum of care. The PMG-CMO and COO dyad provide oversight and guidance for the financial aspects of PMG, and the development and implementation of strategic initiatives consistent with the strategic initiatives of Providence. With dyad partner and regional leadership, PMG-CMO oversees development and implementation of strategic plans; assists with medical staff recruitment to achieve appropriate staffing levels; and ensures that clinic caregivers are well informed regarding PMG strategy, direction, current issues and management response to those issues. This oversight includes; joint accountability with dyad partner for attainment of financial performance targets and for compliance with accreditation standards, and organizational requirements, such as medical management strategies, disease management programs, and service improvement initiatives, including customer satisfaction, and complaint resolution.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

It is expected that the new PMG-CMO will make significant progress in the following measures of success within the first 18 months:

  • Vision and Strategic Orientation: Articulate a vision and a plan to design primary and specialty care models that will position Montana PMG for success in the new paradigm and competitive landscape. Envision and develop a reasonable, coherent strategy for continued growth and maturation of primary care services. Develop and articulate a physician alignment strategy to successfully engage medical staff and community physicians. Implement program and strategies aimed at improving the health in the community and underserved populations.  In addition, support the ministry's commitment to becoming a high reliability organization by shaping a culture of reliability that will enable us to predictably achieve – every time, every place– safe, high quality outcomes, working towards zero harm. 
  • Accountability and Execution/Results Driven: Achieve clinical outcome targets, advancing the high reliability and quality agenda of the health system and maintaining high-touch, cost-effective care delivery. Be results-focused; set clear goals, priorities and specific measurable targets centered on access, quality, patient experience, utilization management, and cost effectiveness; establish and implement peer review structure, make timely decisions while considering cross-functional implications and ensuring alignment with mission, values and strategy; know what and how to measure, and how to interpret and use results. Collaborate with senior leadership and key operations leaders to develop metrics and user-friendly dashboards to enhance accountability at the clinician and managerial level.
