Job Description Summary

The Senior Engineering Manager – Controls Technical Application Engineering will lead a team of Technical Application Engineers responsible for defining the technical application guidelines for control system products offered by the CSS and SPS Business Lines. This role plays a critical part of enabling these business lines to efficiently develop technically appropriate and accurate proposals for Gas Power Controls products fulfilled by the Gas Power Controls Engineering organization. The leader will set the strategic vision for the organization, ensure alignment with Controls Engineering Services Value Stream objectives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical excellence. High levels of judgement, risk balancing/mitigation, program planning and problem solving are required to achieve outcomes.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary application team covering Unit Controls, Generator Controls, HMI/Network/Cyber Security, DCS/BOP, Steam Turbine Mechanical, and CLS applications.
  • Own Technical Application Guide strategy and execution: create, maintain, and govern Technical Application Guides (TAGs); manage interfaces to CSS CPQ, GPS CPQ, and other quoting tools; represent Design Engineering and support interfaces across Services Controls Engineering OTR, Controls NPI, GS Requisition Engineering, and CSS commercial teams
  • Build commercial application capability: design and deliver education for CSS Commercial Application Engineers (CAEs) on quoting controls products and applications
  • Serve as CSE/ITR focal point: act as single point of contact for CSS commercial teams; filter opportunities to Controls Engineering value streams (OTR & NPI); coordinate the Engineering Risk Review process in ITO.
  • NPI commercialization: partner with Controls Product Management and Controls Engineering to refine NPI product commercialization; create TAGs, set technical quoting limits, and deliver CAE education to support ATQ
  • ITO/OTR integration: provide technical support for opportunity development with customers and other GE Vernova business units; ensure OTR capabilities are reflected in quoting limits; drive high-quality ITO-to-OTR handoffs; establish a Lean operating model for continuous improvement of TAGs and technical quoting limits aligned with OTR capabilities
  • Planning BOMs and forecasting support: lead development/evolution of planning BOMs for material and engineering in support of CSS Supply Chain planning and forecasting models
  • Aftermarket and lifecycle: provide application and quoting guidance for spare parts and Controls Lifecycle Services (CLS);
  • Refine Critical-to-Quality ITO guidance (efficiency/accuracy, proposal language) and channel feedback to Product Line on market trends and needs
  • Cross-functional partnerships: collaborate closely with Services Consulting Engineering, Project Engineering, Services Value Stream Operations, Services Product Standards & Methods, Technical Leaders, and GP Services Alliance partners.
  • Commercial and engineering interfaces: partner with CSS/SPS Commercial Managers, CAEs, and FAEs; interface with GP Controls Engineering value streams (Services, Electrical, HMI/Network/Cyber, Mark VIe, HDGT) and collaborate with Commercial Risk and Pricing.

Basic Requirements -

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry work experience in control systems.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.

  • Cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management across engineering value streams and commercial organizations
  • Familiarity with GP Controls Engineering toolchain and Value Streams and collaboration with alliances/partners.
  • Technical background in controls or related engineering discipline with significant experience in applications/ITO/OTR for industrial controls (gas/steam turbines, DCS/BOP, HMI/Network/Cyber, excitation, generator protection, static starter)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical issues for diverse audiences.
  • Self-starter with the ability to motivate, provide constructive feedback, and drive team performance.
