RSM US LLP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced SALT Managing Director to join our State & Local Tax (SALT) practice, focusing on income and franchise tax compliance and consulting. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and manage complex engagements, drive growth, and provide high-value tax advice to a diverse client base across various industries. As a Tax Managing Director for RSM, you will be responsible for the following job duties, which are focused around three core concepts: Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage business relationship for complex engagements with a focus on high-value quality tax advice and seek to expand services to clients.
Drive growth and profitability by generating new revenue from existing clients, cross selling, and acquiring new clients.
Advise clients on nexus, unitary and business income, multi-state tax planning, audit defense, M&A due diligence and other state tax consulting.
Serve as a performance advisor, mentor or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback.
Train and develop staff members, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Communicate complex state and local tax issues in a non-technical manner to facilitate communication between the client understanding and managing risk.
Interact directly with clients handling questions, planning, consulting, etc.
Review research findings and ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards.
Build relationships across lines of business to ensure excellent client service through an integrated service approach.
Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law.
Other duties as assigned.
Some travel may be required (varies based on location, line of business and client need).
Basic Qualifications:
8+ years of experience providing income and franchise tax consulting services in a Public Accounting, Consulting or Law Firm.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
CPA, JD, LLM or EA.
Proven ability to support financial growth efforts and manage a book of business.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and engagement teams for various clients.
Excellent project management and critical thinking skills.
