Overview
The PBW CDL Training and Development Instructor provides advanced expertise in a variety of training and development activities to support organizational and department initiatives in the Department of Public Works. Identifies and arranges suitable training solutions for management and employees seeking to obtain a CDL license.
Essential Functions
- Creates, develops, and maintains CDL training program manuals and trainee guides in correlation to meet Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMSCA) new entry-level driver training requirements.
- Provides in-person daily instruction to students in the following areas: full pre-trip inspection, basic control skills, road driving, operation of manual and/or automatic transmission in different driving conditions (highway, city, night vs. day, inclement weather, etc.). Evaluates progress and grades students throughout the program.
- Provides instruction on the full pre-trip inspection, basic control skills, over-the-road (OTR) training while also providing the materials needed to successfully obtain a CDL license.
- Demonstrates assigned driving operations for students on a regular basis.
- Oversees the safe operation and use of equipment when being used by students, ensuring that City policies and standards are being adhered to.
- Supervises all assigned trainees and completes the necessary documentation for each person, such as student attendance forms and training records.
- Maintains student files in compliance with the City of Dallas and regulatory standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) requirements.
- Knowledge of employee training and development.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and City personnel regulations.
- Knowledge of software and applications.
- Ability to develop and implement educational and training materials.
- Ability to conduct and perform educational classes and training events.
- Ability to make presentations.
- Ability to resolve conflict and solve problems.
- Ability to research and provide excellent project management skills.
- Ability to analyze data and make recommendations.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
- Four (4) years of experience in over the road (OTR) or local commercial driving experience.
EQUIVALENCY:
- A current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructor license will meet the experience requirements.
LICENSE:
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) (Class B)
PREFERENCES:
- A current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instructor license is a plus.
- A valid Class A (CDL) Commercial driver’s license is a plus.
- Bilingual is a plus.
Salary Range
