Job Summary:
The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing resident care for designated shifts. The Charge Nurse will work with related departments on ensuring that resident care issues are addressed during the designated shift.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directs the day-to-day functions of the nursing staff in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility
- Assures adequate staff to meet residents’ needs
- Ensures that all nursing personnel assigned comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists staff nurses in their evaluation and assessment of resident needs and in direct patient care.
- Manages scheduling of resident appointments and receives a report from the previous shift on all patients and identifies special residents’ care needs
- Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary
- Completes accident/incident reports as necessary
- Prepares and administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Ensures that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Report needs to the Nurse Supervisor
- Makes daily rounds of unit/shift to ensure that nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards
- Admits, transfers, and discharges residents as required
- Perform admission head to toe assessments and initiate plan of care
- Complete discharge education with patients and families
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of and interest in leadership concepts
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
- Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work
Education and Experience:
- Must possess an active license to practice as an RN in Wisconsin
- Experience with or interest in working within industry preferred
