Position Summary:

The Associate AD for Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)/General Manager will work with key stakeholders in the Rice Athletic Department, Rice University Office of General Counsel, various external constituent groups, and third-party partners of Rice Athletics, and the South Main Collective to advance Name, Image, and Likeness opportunities for Rice student-athletes. The Associate AD for NIL/General Manager will serve as the primary, day-to-day point of contact for all things related to NIL for Rice Athletics as well as the liaison on NIL-related matters between all relevant stakeholders. The position will assist in ensuring adherence to federal and state laws, as well as the policies of the designated university, conference, and NCAA.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four years of related experience
  • Must be able to correspond professionally both in writing and orally
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as the event schedule requires
  • Must be familiar with MS Office Suite

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a resource and primary contact for all NIL-related matters for all relevant university stakeholders, including coaches and athletics department leadership.
  • To the extent allowed under federal, state and NCAA law, 
  • To the extent allowed under federal, state and NCAA law, 
    • Assist with fundraising and soliciting partners for NIL opportunities
    • Facilitate contracts and payments for NIL activities
    • Monitor fulfillment of NIL activities by Rice student-athletes
  • In collaboration with various Rice Athletics leaders, oversee the implementation and regular review of university NIL procedures and best practices.
  • Manage NIL questions and requests from university stakeholders (e.g., athletes, coaches, staff, etc.) and external stakeholders (e.g., agencies, third parties, businesses, boosters, etc.).
  • Assist student-athlete development (“SOAR”) unit as necessary with any NIL education for all university and external stakeholders. 
  • Create and implement efficient and effective communication strategies in partnership with Rice Athletics communications to keep key athletics leadership and head coaches abreast of the latest industry trends and developments.
  • Coordinate regular meetings of university and campus stakeholders, including but not limited to senior administrators, compliance, student-athlete development, academic services, development, and external relations.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with head coaches and other select sport staff members to discuss player personnel and roster management. 
  • Stay updated on the latest NIL trends and best practices, including legislative advancements, NCAA regulations, and vendor landscape evolutions.
  • Adapt role to maximize efficiencies because of evolving changes in NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Provide regular reports to the Rice Athletics Executive Staff. 
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, both within the organization, applicable university, and other external entities.
  • All other duties as directed by the Athletic Director or designee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field or a JD
