Position Description
As an Environmental, Health & Safety Engineer, your goal is to work with plant leadership in establishing and maintaining the environmental, health and safety of the plant to reduce work related injuries and environmental risk by evaluating and continuously improving the program and leading risk reduction initiatives for the facility.
You Will do this by:
- Develop, administer and maintain effective occupational health, safety, environmental, ergonomics and industrial hygiene programs to help create a safe workplace.
- Update and implement plant programs for the prevention and control of EHS risks, including reduction of risk, prevention of injuries, compliance with environmental permits.
- Educate, motivate and train leadership, supervision, maintenance and production in safe work procedures.
- Manage the plant personal protective equipment, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards and operating budget.
- Partner with human resources in the workers’ compensation program, including effective medical case management, incident reporting, record maintenance and follow-up.
- Develop and coordinate plant safety and environmental education and training programs.
- Maintain current awareness of applicable federal, state and local health, industrial hygiene, environmental and safety regulations and maintains records accordingly, including confidentiality.
- Assist the line organization in conducting risk assessments and developing safe operating procedures.
- Maintain professional competency through participation in professional education and training programs and completion of any necessary requirements to maintain professional credentials.
- Conduct frequent safety and environmental inspections and procedural audits. Has the knowledge, and ability to take immediate corrective action if required.
- Ensure all incidents, including injuries, near misses, internal spills, external releases, potential permit non-compliances, failure to comply with reporting deadlines, regulatory inspections, or similar incidents are promptly reported to plant management and corporate.
- Supervise the plant’s solid, hazardous, and universal waste management program and activities, including the collection, labeling, accumulation, preparation for off-site transportation, emergency planning and reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Analytical – uses data to analyze and interpret results, recommend appropriate corrective actions, conduct root cause analysis, communicate results and follow up on issues or concerns through completion.
- Self Driven – Provides guidance to leadership and plant on safe procedures to drive risk reduction and able to work outside scope of responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, EHS Management, Environmental Engineering/Sciences or other technically related field.
- Minimum 2 years experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Able to work outside of scope of responsibilities.
- Previous experience with establishing, managing and improving plant level EHS programs to comply with OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with regulatory agencies.
- Additional Knowledge & Skills:
- Solid presentation and communication skills.
- Computer skills, data analysis and reporting tools, and other applicable applications.
- Ability to carry tasks/projects through to completion while meeting established deadlines with limited oversight.
Travel Required:
- Minimal Travel – 5-10%
- Biannually
