About the role

  • Create and lead a robust US Portfolio Optimization opportunity identification process including introducing a quarterly review cycle of significant clients and partners, and appropriate analysis of value creation drivers, including impact on capital consumption, CSM, IFRS 17 experience variances, economic value added and cashflow
  • Lead development and negotiation of specific complex, non-traditional inforce optimization transactions such as extending rate guarantee framework, trading new business for inforce accommodations, involvement in large scale negotiated resolutions,  etc.
  • Identify, develop and deliver effective solutions to further optimize SCOR’s US portfolio (e.g. retrocession arrangements to improve cashflow development and/or accelerate reduction of US Inforce portfolio to enable more new business investment at higher returns)
  • Linking new business pricing to VNB to NB CSM and developing understanding of underlying drivers and a robust feedback loop across the US organization; ensure that we are investing SCOR’s new business capital in the most efficient manner within SCOR’s overall capital framework
  • Work closely with the Finance, Actuarial and Experience Analysis teams regarding potential assumption changes and IFRS 17 experience variances with particular focus on identifying strategies to mitigate any negative impacts.
  • Identify, recommend, lead and/or support actions to be taken by SCOR to optimize its in-force block from a CSM, capital, cash flow, earnings, solvency 2, and economic value-added perspective.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive US Portfolio Optimization process aimed at identifying opportunities for improvement across the portfolio. 
  • Establish and maintain a quarterly review cycle for significant clients to assess performance and uncover optimization opportunities across products and in collaboration with IO and Finance teams. 
  • Analyze key drivers of value creation, including capital consumption, Contractual Service Margin (CSM), IFRS 17 experience variances, economic value added, and cashflow impact.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to assess and prioritize portfolio optimization opportunities based on financial and strategic benefits.
  • Drive the creation of strategies to manage the US Inforce portfolio, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives and market trends.
  • Lead and/or support negotiations and development of complex, non-traditional portfolio optimization transactions, such as rate guarantee frameworks trading new business for inforce accommodations, involvement in large scale negotiated resolutions,  etc.Identify and develop innovative solutions to optimize SCOR’s US portfolio, focusing on retrocession arrangements and capital-efficient strategies.
  • Implement retrocession arrangements designed to improve cashflow development and accelerate the reduction of the US Inforce portfolio.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to free up capital from the US Inforce portfolio for higher-return new business investments.
  • Establish a strong feedback loop to link new business pricing to Value of New Business (VNB) and New Business CSM (NB CSM) to drive alignment across the organization.
  • Build deep insights into the underlying drivers of pricing and profitability, ensuring that the organization is investing capital in the most efficient manner.
  • Provide strategic guidance to ensure SCOR’s new business capital is aligned with the company’s overall capital framework and risk tolerance.
  • Work closely with Finance, Actuarial, and Experience Analysis teams to evaluate potential assumption and modeling changes and assess their impact on financial performance.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate the negative impact of IFRS 17 experience variances on CSM balance, preserving SCOR’s financial stability.
  • Understand the intricacies and implications of aggregate vs. treaty-specific assumptions when reserving (under IFRS 17) and developing the impact of management actions on PVFCFs.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in product management in the life insurance and life reinsurance industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or equivalent.
  • Prior experience leading in a global/multinational capacity, including leading strategic initiatives. 
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and / or Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
  • Experience in leading the pricing of life reinsurance products.
  • Experience in leading the valuation and projection of life reinsurance liabilities under IFRS17, Solvency 2 and GAAP reporting regimes.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of life insurance laws and regulations and insurance products. 
  • PC skills and experience with analysis of actuarial software output.
