WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager in ensuring that accounting functions are carried out in full compliance with federal and state law, state and agency policy, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. These Accounting functions include: cash management, accounting and reporting systems, the cost allocation system, the OED timekeeping and state payroll system, accounts payable and receivable process and other support functions to include property, and financial accounting policy interpretation and enforcement.

In this role, you will contribute to the achievement of the agency’s mission by having an extensive knowledge of the agency’s and state’s complex accounting and program practices and procedures to facilitate a full range of effective financial service support to the central office and field offices throughout the state. This is a critical position in the agency, responsible for ensuring accuracy, compliance, and integrity of agency financial and reporting services within the context of materiality as they span across multiple programs and efforts. The services include expertise in analyzing the quantitative and qualitative aspects of agency-wide program operational policies and IT systems, to ensure the accounting, reporting, and public trust objectives of the agency are met.  The work products of this position are highly visible to agency leadership, federal and state auditors, other state agencies, and the public.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate AND three years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 2 work to include designing and modifying accounting systems that require frequent changes in requirements to meet specific business objectives, consulting with program managers or external organizations, and assuring the proper functioning and accountability of fiscal operations; OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or in any discipline that includes or is supplemente
