Job Overview

The Director, Student Philanthropy and Engagement, oversees Georgetown’s comprehensive undergraduate student giving and engagement program. Through strategic planning and effective management this individual will continue to build on Georgetown’s best-in-class student philanthropy programs, which promote a culture of philanthropy with students and foster lifelong connections and traditions with our future alumni. The Director should be a high performer who can successfully manage and mentor a team of 3+ full-time employees, provide leadership for volunteer, event, and program management, and forge productive relationships with a number of internal and external partners.

Work Interactions

The Director will report to the Assistant Vice President, Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns (CPRC), and will serve as a leader within the CPRC team. They will manage at least two assistant directors and one program coordinator.

The Director will work closely with the colleagues across the Office of Advancement (OA) and campus to build and implement a successful student philanthropy campaign. They will also serve as a leader and advisor across OA for student engagement and philanthropy.

About Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns:

The Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns (CPRC) team supports the mission of Georgetown University by fostering lifelong engagement between alumni and Georgetown, and by increasing philanthropic support for the university’s future. The CPRC team works with over 800 alumni and student volunteers to increase class-based engagement and giving through peer-to-peer outreach. CPRC is, as a whole, responsible for establishing class fundraising goals, recruiting and developing volunteers, identifying donors, hosting world-class signature events (Homecoming and Reunion Weekends), and engaging alumni and students in class-based fundraising and engagement.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of professional experience, ideally in a higher education, fundraising, and/or student-alumni engagement environment

  • Passion for Georgetown and its mission

  • Driven, self-motivated

  • Track record of high achievement and meeting or exceeding goals

  • Proven ability to think strategically and develop strategic plans

  • Ability to lead by example and through instructions

  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Desire to work in a team environment

  • Professional and collegial demeanor and ability to exercise diplomacy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments

  • Ability to manage interactions and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders in a professional and positive manner

  • Experience working with customers and/or volunteers

  • Ability to handle confidential matters on a regular basis

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft applications (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access)

  • Ability to work nights and weekends with some regularity
