Job Description:
The Brown University Division of Advancement seeks qualified applications for the position of Assistant Director, Annual Leadership Giving.
The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director, Annual Leadership Giving, is to develop and implement philanthropic education efforts to increase the number of Brown Annual Fund Leader gifts from graduate and undergraduate alumni 15+ years out. Brown Annual Fund Leaders' gifts are defined as donations at the $10,000 - $1,000,000+ level in cash or similar tender in a single fiscal year.
The Assistant Director identifies, recruits, trains, and staffs a high-level Council of volunteers engaged in peer solicitations of Brown Annual Fund Leaders, the BAF Leadership Council (BAFLC). This role collaborates with internal Prospect Managers (PMs) and Annual Giving colleagues on solicitations of prospects by members of this volunteer Council.
The successful candidate flourishes in a collaborative environment committed to supporting current use giving to the Annual Fund through volunteer engagement, management, and fundraising.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in development and fundraising or similar transferable experience required.
Minimum 3 years of direct volunteer management or development experience required with progressive responsibility.
Demonstrated success in solicitation of 5-figure+ gifts is highly preferred.
Some supervisory experience preferred.
Previous experience working in a university setting preferred.
Job Competencies
Ability to travel and work evening/weekend hours as appropriate for donor visits and events.
Demonstrated success in reunion and/or leadership giving, devising cultivation and solicitation strategies, and volunteer management.
Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills with the ability to conceive, propose, execute, and evaluate short- and long-term plans that support the activities of the program and contribute to the overall goals of the Advancement Division. The ability to handle and prioritize multiple concurrent tasks is essential.
Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate and build positive rapport with varied constituencies professionally; clarity, professionalism, and diplomacy in written and oral communication skills; and comfort interacting with individuals of considerable social status and affluence.
Proficiency with online and Windows software, such as or similar to Google Mail and calendaring, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software.
Ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making; tact and discretion are required to deal with highly confidential parent, student, family, donor, and prospect information.
Must be a detail-oriented self-starter who is comfortable working independently as well as part of a close-knit team that values creativity, a sense of humor, energy, and positivity.
