Accounting Specialist, Sales Tax

We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate Accounting Specialist, Sales Tax within our Finance capability. This position reports to Director of Tax and will work in Elkhart, IN, Chicago, IL, Greenbrier, TN, Big Prairie, OH or Troy, MI office. Please note, we will hire either an Accounting Specialist or a Tax Analyst.

About the position

As an Accounting Specialist, Sales Tax in the Finance team, you will be involved in assisting in tax compliance, research, and reporting activities to ensure the company meets its tax obligations while maximizing its tax benefits. Working closely with the Tax leadership and cross-functional teams, this position will contribute to accurate and timely tax filings and assist in tax planning initiatives.

Main responsibilities:

Sales Tax Compliance:

• Assist in the preparation and filing of sales tax returns for various jurisdictions.
• Learn and ensure compliance with state and local sales tax regulations and laws.
  Data Entry and Record Keeping:
• Input and maintain accurate records of sales transactions and related tax information.
• Support the organization and filing of sales tax records.

Audit Support:

• Assist in the preparation of documentation for sales tax audits.
• Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary information during audit processes.

Research and Resolution:

• Conduct research on sales tax issues and discrepancies, working with other departments to address any identified discrepancies.
• Stay informed about changes in sales tax laws and regulations.

Collaboration:

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including sales and finance teams, to ensure accurate reporting of sales tax information.
• Provide support in responding to inquiries from tax authorities.

Reporting Assistance:

• Support the generation of reports related to sales tax liabilities, collections, and exemptions.
• Assist in basic financial reporting tasks as needed.

A suitable background would be a solid experience within accounting – as well as the following qualifications and experiences:

• High school diploma or equivalent and some college coursework and/or work experience in accounting or a related field is required; bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is a plus and may substitute for work experience.
• Demonstrated prior experience that required strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant office software.
