Yahoo’s Information Security Organization (aka The Paranoids) is undergoing a transformation!  We are looking for a seasoned leader with strong technical and people skills to lead our Cyber Engineering team (~35 FTEs).  In this role, you will lead security architecture, data, devops, software development, and operations teams responsible for securing the Paranoids and Yahoo’s products and services. The Cyber Engineering team's customers span a variety of internal and external teams. Internally, you will support cyber leadership and your colleagues that span the core information security capabilities: Incident Response, Product Security, GRC, etc. Externally, you will support key groups across Yahoo such as the platform engineering teams, AI/ML researchers, and our flagship product teams: Mail, Sports, Finance, etc.  Your team's mission is to operate like a true engineering team by rapidly designing, architecting and building solutions - based on the priorities of the business, customers and Paranoids’ needs - that are highly performant, scalable, robust and have a clear value proposition! You will also partner with Engineering leaders across Yahoo’s evolving business pillars to ensure that products and tools are developed in a secure manner.

This leader must exhibit a passion for data and information security, while representing the steadfast importance of fighting for Yahoo's users and consumers. The leader will have proven people leadership skills, a customer centric focus, analytical problem-solving skills, and the ability to quickly make recommendations and data-driven decisions on the business’s security posture.

What a successful candidate will bring to this position

  • Facilitate the integration of separate engineering teams into a larger Engineering horizontal that spans the entire information security organization.

  • Lead awesome security engineering teams that support developer tools, artifact stores, CI/CD solutions, packaging and deployment solutions, code repositories, and developer practice standards.  

  • Thoughtfully balance the needs of the Paranoids organization today, against our future trajectory. Lead the Paranoids in partnering closely with their customers.

  • Focus on customer and business outcomes and emphasize differentiated industry leading technology platforms. 

  • Improve our existing platforms and help drive innovation, while keeping in mind the sensibilities of Yahoo’s engineering community.

  • Foster and grow the engineering culture across existing teams, emphasizing empathy, collaboration, innovation, and quality.

  • Partner with internal and external customers to design and develop the Paranoids future state for data management and analytics.

  • Create and own the forward-looking strategy for Cyber Engineering that emphasizes speed and the customer experience.

  • Partner with leaders across Yahoo engineering to ensure roadmaps and large enterprise-wide projects are visible and communicated to all.

  • An awareness and understanding of core information security capabilities such as data security, product security, detection engineering, etc…

  • Experience guiding colleagues through the core SDLC process and implementing best security practices from industry.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field or equivalent work experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in technology in multi-disciplinary envir
