Associate Director of Digital Trust

Department:

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has approximately 85 full time staff members and 100 undergraduate or graduate students that work each day to support the mission of UMBC through the delivery of IT services to the campus. DoIT provides robust, secure IT environments that enable solutions for advancing the UMBC community. We do this through a staff of technology professionals that are connected both nationally and to UMBC. 

Position Overview:

The Associate Director of Digital Trust will play a key role in supporting UMBC's Information Security program by monitoring the legislative and regulatory landscape and providing policy advice and recommendations on cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence (AI), and other emerging technologies. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strategies and plans that align with relevant legislation and regulations and support the University's Digital Trust initiatives, such as the continuing development of our privacy program.

Additionally, the position will serve as the Associate Director and program manager for UMBC's Cyber Range and Cybersecurity Clinic in association with the UMBC Cybersecurity Institute and the Maryland Institute for Innovative Computing (MIIC). In this capacity, the incumbent will lead, coordinate, and ensure the overall success of these programs, including communicating program details and maintaining alignment with organizational priorities. While this effort will be coordinated through the Division of Information Technology, the expected candidate will work closely with faculty associated with the UMBC Cybersecurity Institute.

Telework:

Responsibilities:

Monitor the Policy and Regulatory Landscape 

• Monitor cybersecurity, privacy, and AI-related legislation and regulations; provide policy advice and recommendations; develop strategies and plans to address changes.

Privacy Law Implementation:

• Oversee the University's compliance with privacy laws, including developing implementation plans and managing privacy governance programs. 

Cyber Clinic Management:

• Provide program management and oversight for the UMBC Cyber Clinic, including teaching a Master's level course and overseeing student practicums. 

Cyber Range Management:

• Provide program management and oversight for Cyber Range implementations.

Security Awareness & Training:

• Support the campus security awareness and training program, with a focus on privacy and compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned to enhance UMBC's security posture.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in a related field to teach in our Master's of Cybersecurity
• Three years experience overseeing and coordinating K-12 outreach program such as the UMBC Cyber Range

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Terminal degree in law, public policy, or technology with significant academic coursework in Cybersecurity is highly desired
• Prior university level teaching experience in cybersecurity or regulatory compliance
• Juris Doctor in Cybersecurity or related field since privacy is usually defined by legal statute 
• Certified Information System Security Professional certification
