Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company is currently seeking a Product Development Scientist/Engineer to join the Polymer Science & Product Development Group within the Research & Technology (R&T) organization in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Polymer Science & Product Development Group engages in Research and Development activities in the areas related to development of new and improved polyethylene via establishment of structure-property-processing relationships, applications and processing research. The Product Development Scientist/Engineer provides technical support for the Commercial Team’s efforts on new business development and sales growth for both current and prospective customers. The Product Development Scientist/Engineer works closely with the Commercial Team to identify VOC (voice of customer) for product development and to investigate and resolve customer complaints and works with the catalyst groups to provide directions to modify the structure and/or the composition of polyethylene thereby meeting customer’s requirements. The Product Development Scientist/Engineer assists production of polyethylene in the pilot and the commercial plant. #HPCP
Responsibilities
Product Development
- Be a SME by building expertise in the polyethylene product and process technologies.
- Conduct the internal and external customer projects via establishment of the structure-property-processing relationships in the various applications of polyethylene.
- Lead cross functional teams in the development and commercialization of new polymers and existing polymers in new applications.
- Develop and broaden the intellectual property portfolio of the company through patenting, trade secrets and publishing.
- Exercise open innovation by working with internal and external customers, suppliers and/or competitors for product development.
- Share knowledge with others by documenting and communicating the findings in a timely manner.
Responsibilities (continued)
Commercial Support
- Participate the customer visits with the GPAG (Global Polymers Applications Group) members to identify the requirements for the applications and/or the product issues and the opportunity for potential new sales.
- Assist the Commercial Team and customers by troubleshooting customer problems and resolving processing issues.
- Coordinate with the Operation Teams along with suppliers and other CPChem personnel to assist the Commercial Team in resolving customer complaints.
- Provide timely feedback on the product issues to address customer complaints.

Production Support
- Participate in the plant trials to assist production engineers for the production of new products on the commercial lines.
- Facilitate the investigation to assist the Quality Manager in resolving internal and external claims and provide timely feedback.
- Assist in quality and continuous improvement initiatives by ensuring that corrective measures or actions are established, communicated, and implemented across all functions.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Polymer Science/Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering
