Position Summary
This Associate Director role will be an integral part of the broader Business Development organization by providing both strategic and transactional support for focused on the financial and operational components of proposed acquisitions, divestitures, licensing & collaboration arrangements, and other strategic investment opportunities.
Candidates are required to have a fundamental understanding of valuation principles and techniques, as well as a general understanding of basic accounting principles. The candidate will be required to work with key stakeholders across the company (e.g. Business Development, Commercial, R&D, Legal and Finance, Accounting, Tax and Treasury) to communicate and assess the impact of various transactions. This role reports to the Vice President, BD & Strategic Finance
Key Responsibilities
Prepare robust financial assessments including valuation, return metrics, and risk profile assessment across multiple scenarios for potential transactions
Support multiple transactions at a single time across a diverse set of potential structures spanning from company or product acquisitions, divestitures, and licensing & collaboration arrangements;
Coordinate financial inputs and advice from subject-matter experts across the company (BD, Commercial, R&D, Legal, Various finace teams, Tax and Treasury) for inclusion in financial models, term sheets and contracts;
Analyze complex business situations and identify related risks and opportunities as well as providing recommendation on deal terms and deal structure.
Establish and maintain strong business partnerships and cross functional relations to support potential transactions across the broader financial organization including impacts on Budget/Projection, LTI, LTFP, Capital Allocation, etc
Contribute to the creation of presentation materials and messaging for the Leadership Team & Board of Directors
Qualifications, Experience and Key Capabilities
B.S. or B.A. degree required; CPA, CFA, or MBA in finance preferred
5-10 years of progressive, relevant financial experience; at least 3 years supporting M&A and/or licensing transactions preferred;
Previous investment banking, management consulting, business development related background preferred;
Experience in pharmaceutical / biotechnology space preferred;
Experience with valuation methodologies such as discounted cash flow analysis & market-based comparables and generating key financial metrics (e.g. IRR, sum of the parts and retained value);
Strong analytical, quantitative, and financial modeling skills with the ability to prioritize workload
Understanding of P&L drivers within the pharmaceutical space such as sales forecasting, and manufacturing, commercial & R&D costs, is an advantage;
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines;
Collaboration: Successful candidate will have ability to clearly communicate and story-tell; will also need strong cross-matrix partnership skills
Financial Literacy: Strong financial experience and background, with the ability to generate and evaluate impacts of key decisions across the enterprise forecast, including implications to P&L, capital allocation, asset valuation, balance sheet and cashflows
Business Acumen: Ability to act as a business partner including providing an enterprise mindset to decision making, balancing risks and opportunities while providing financial and business perspective
