Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Maintenance Assistants use hand and shop tools to perform semiskilled maintenance and repair work on structures and equipment. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization.
Duties of a Maintenance Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:
- Manage and oversee Hospital Construction Inventory and Warehouse.
- Control construction inventory and warehouse locations.
- Create and manage excel spreadsheets of received material and inventory.
- Maintain warehouse and storage areas integrity for safety and cleanliness, resolve as needed.
- Operate heavy, powered equipment (Hi-Lo, hand jacks, etc.).
- Maintain and enforce standard safety protocols throughout.
- Schedule, perform routine and preventative maintenance on powered and non-powered equipment.
- Oversee the break down & restocking of all incoming construction inventory.
- Place stock to be stored in large and/or heavy cases on warehouse shelving.
- Check all delivery’s against packing slips to assure correct amounts and document item location.
- Deliver requisitioned supplies to the hospital’s construction projects and warehouse.
- Oversee construction and warehouse inventory.
- Assist with conducting physical inventory.
- Patrol various areas throughout the Facilities which would include all Loading Dock areas, Deck areas along with various mechanical rooms to ensure cleanliness and Joint Commission Compliance.
Qualifications
Required:
- Two years of experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trade’s worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License.
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
Preferred:
- Candidate should have a valid Powered Industrial Truck Operator Permit.
- Knowledge of Warehouse inventory protocols.
- Knowledge of Construction inventory supplies.
- Working knowledge of inventory reconciliation.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Capable of lifting over 50 lbs.
- Experience working and creating Excel spreadsheets.
